Six injured in Newry street fight

Six men received treatment in hospital in the early hours of this morning following a street fight in Newry.

Six men received treatment in hospital in the early hours of this morning following a street fight in Newry.

A PSNI spokeswoman said the incident was sparked at about 2am as two men were walking along Water Street when one fell over. Another man offered help, but the man refused and a fight began.

A number of men became involved and ambulances were called to attend to six injured people.

Ambulances were called to treat six people, including one man whose lip was almost severed.

Three of the men were treated for slash wounds to their faces. The others received treatment for bruising and minor wounds.

The PSNI appealed for anyone with any information about the incident to contact Newry station on 0845 600 8000 or the Crimestoppers charity.

Separately, a man (44) was taken to hospital in Newtownards to be treated for stab wounds.

He was injured at about 2am following an incident on Stirling Avenue in the town.

His injuries were not believed to be life threatening.
