Next year's Tour de France will be the shortest in the event's long history.
It will cover 3,282 kilometres from the prologue in Luxembourg to the finish on the Champs Elysées in Paris.
Unveiling plans for the 2002 Tour, organisers said the first stage proper would also be in Luxembourg with the second stage finishing in the German town of Sarrebruck.
Twenty-one teams with nine cyclists per team are expected to compete in the bid to dethrone Lance Armstrong of the United States who has won the last three Tours.
