Cup specialists Shamrock Rovers will be seeking revenge on holders Dundalk after the two sides were drawn against each other in the second round of the FAI Carlsberg Cup.
Rovers were soundly beaten 4-0 by the Oriel Park side in last season’s semi-final but will relish the opportunity of turning the tables on their Division One opponents after adding two former Dundalk favourites - Stephen McGuinness and James Keddy - to their squad in recent months.
Speaking on RTE television this evening, Shamrock Rovers manager Liam Buckley said it would be a "tough game. . .but a game to look forward to."
St Patrick’s Athletic, unlucky not to have progressed in the Intertoto Cup on Saturday night, will play host to Galway United while Shelbourne entertain non-league Rockmount at Tolka Park.
Last season’s beaten finalists, Bohemians, are drawn at home to Garda but manager Stephen Kenny was quick to scoff suggestions that a win for his side would be a mere formality.
"I won’t be looking beyond this round," he said. "We won’t be underestimating them and we won’t be treating them lightly."
Drogheda United have made an encouraging start to life in the eircom League Premier Division and will host Derry City at O2 Park. Harry McCue’s side beat City 2-1 in their opening league fixture.
