A 68-year-old Connemara man who faces over 100 charges of allegedly buggering and indecently assaulting four boys, on various dates between 1962 and 1980, changed his plea to not guilty when he appeared before Galway Circuit Criminal Court yesterday.

The pensioner had originally pleaded guilty to seven sample counts of indecent assault, and five counts of buggery when he came before the court last December. The case had been adjourned to allow for the preparation of victim impact reports.

Giving the man a week to find another legal team to represent him, Judge Carroll Moran said he had made his application to change his plea very late in the day. He advised the accused that his trial would proceed next Tuesday and would not be adjourned again.
