London - The national executive council of the National Union of Journalists has voted to sack deputy general secretary, Mr Jake Ecclestone, the union said last night.
The vote of "no confidence" came after a disciplinary hearing at which NUJ general secretary Mr John Foster laid charges of "abuse of role" against his deputy, it said. This complaint was upheld by the council and a formal written warning issued to Mr Ecclestone. The council then went on to hear the "no confidence" proposal, tied to Mr Ecclestone's immediate dismissal. This was agreed, the union said.
