The SDLP has condemned a sectarian arson attack on a Catholic school in Belfast early this morning.

Police say they are treating the fire at the Dominican College in Fortwilliam Park as arson.

A caretaker at college discovered the fire after an alarm call at about 12.30 a.m. It caused serious damage to a storeroom and kitchens, and other rooms were water-damaged.

The SDLP's Mr Alban Maginness said the attack "follows a summer of violence in the north Belfast area".

"Innocent people have been subjected to daily turmoil at the hands of mindless thugs. I appeal for anyone with any information on this attack to contact police."
