According to the ASTI president, 95 per cent of second-level school principals have no permanent personal secretary and 15 per cent have no full-time secretarial assistance of any kind to help them in managing their schools. Mr John Hurley was speaking at the publication of the first guide for second-level principals, School Leader- ship and Strategic Planning, by Mr David Touhy of UCD.
"Principals have pretty much the same duties and responsibilities as managing directors in private firms, and you can be sure that our economy would not last long if 95 per cent of MDs had no PA to assist them in the strategic planning of their business," Mr Hurley said.
