OBVIOUSLY many women are taking the May edition of Elle magazine's "shop report" very seriously indeed. The column, which declares that "Dublin's superchic head for superstore Brown Thomas", lists Prada wedge sandals and Gucci halternecks as must-haves and Wednesday's fashion show of those labels, plus German designer Jil Sander, was oversubscribed.
However, anyone searching for the Prada sandals was disappointed as the only pair in the show - size 8 - was the last pair available, all other sizes having flown out of the shop the day they arrived.
Among the many keeping their disappointment in check and adding their names to waiting lists were Eileen Parkinson and her daughter, Deirdre; Isolyn Mullion; Beatrice Blake; Barbara McKenzie; Central Remedial Clinic's Vivien McCutcheon; Clio Forde's Breda Clifford; Monica Murray and Mary Brennan, as well as the next generation - Chloe Blake, Dara Higgins, Catherine Ann Heaney and Orla Brennan.
Designers Michael Mortell and Cuan Hanley and stylist Helen Coady were present but were determinedly socialising, not working. Michael Leong put the pheasant feathers in the models' hair and Suzanne Yard of Bobbi Brown flew in fresh from the New York shows to do the make-up.
