Baghdad - One Iraqi child dies every nine minutes due to stringent UN economic sanctions, an Iraqi newspaper said yesterday.
Al-Musawir Al-Arabi weekly quoted statistics that showed the death rate among children from diarrhoea had increased eleven-fold since August, 1990, while the death rate from pneumonia rose tenfold. Deaths due to malnutrition increased 24 times during the same period, it said.
