Suva - The first sanctions to be imposed on Fiji were announced yesterday as the Pacific nation's new President prepared to replace the overthrown elected government.
The New Zealand government announced a raft of measures, including halving its development aid to Fiji, in response to the racial coup that saw the country's first ethnic Indian prime minister ousted.
It also published a list of 300 people involved in the attempted takeover, who it said would be banned from entering the country, and closed a package of military and student exchanges.
