Seven teenage skinheads were found guilty by a Moscow court today of killing 20 migrant workers, Interfax news agency reported.

The court also said the gang had tried to murder 12 other migrants between August 2006 and October 2007. It has not yet sentenced the gang.

Resentment against migrants from the former Soviet states of Central Asia and the Caucasus has grown in more marginalised segments of Russian society since the 1991 break up of the Soviet Union.

Human rights groups now worry racist attacks will accelerate alongside a global financial crisis which has hit Russia hard.

Between January and October this year 113 migrants died from racist attacks in Russia and 340 were wounded -- up from 74 deaths and 320 injuries for the whole of 2007, according to the non-governmental organisation Moscow Human Rights Bureau.
