Clash fans will be barrelling down to the Olympia on Tuesday to witness the unleashing of Joe Strummer's new band, The Mescaleros. The shadow of Strummer's (right) former band, however, is long, and punters will almost certainly be expecting a few Clash classics for their admission fee; happily for the old punks in the audience, I Fought The Law, London Calling, White Riot, Rock The Casbah and

White Man In Hammersmith Palais are all included in the set-list. Since the Clash's last gasp, Strummer has become a bit of a punk troubadour, popping up in some unlikely places; in the early 1990s, he enjoyed a short stint as the lead singer of The Pogues, replacing the departed Shane MacGowan. With his new band, The Mescaleros, Strummer has recorded an album for release next month -we'll find out on Tuesday if the new songs can hold up alongside the old Clash favourites.
