Paris - Police patrols were reinforced at Paris railway stations and Channel ports yesterday after the arrest in Calais of 210 foreigners who were trying to enter Britain illegally.

Riot police were called to clear out the French port's central Saint-Pierre park, where up to 200 refugees, including about 60 children, were camping out in rough shelters waiting to find illegal methods of crossing to Dover.

Some 18 of the 210 people arrested were threatened with deportation and 35 were freed.
