THE HEALTH Service Executive has confirmed that work has been completed at two of its offices in Co Clare which had to be vacated in July due to the presence of high levels of cancer-causing radon gas.
It will be another three months, however, before staff can return to work in the offices.
In July, one of the offices at Tobartaoscáin in Ennis was discovered to have three times the permitted level of radon.
Another office in the same building was found to have a lower level of the gas, but still greater than that permitted legally.
The affected offices are located at a business park at Tobartaoscáin in the town, where the HSE rents several units.
The HSE said a specialist contractor had completed an assessment of the facility and works to remedy the problem had also been completed.
A spokesman said one office had still to be inspected by health and safety officers, "while the second office will be monitored over the next three months before staff go back in to the offices".
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas which originates from the decay of uranium in rock and soil.
