Two police officers in Northern Ireland have escaped serious injury in paramilitary-style attack on their vehicle.

An explosive device struck the vehicle as it travelled along the Killough Road in Downpatrick, Co Down this morning.

The area is now closed and a security operation is under way.

Meanwhile, a man has escaped injury following an attempted paramilitary style shooting in east Belfast.

Two men tried to break into his Longstone Avenue home in the Ballybean area, however, the victim was able to block the door.

One shot was fired at him from the garden but he was not hit.
