PSNI DETECTIVES are trying to establish why a financial adviser was murdered at his home in Templepatrick, Co Antrim.

PSNI DETECTIVES are trying to establish why a financial adviser was murdered at his home in Templepatrick, Co Antrim.

They believe that dissident republicans were not implicated but one line of inquiry is that loyalist paramilitaries were involved.

Geoff Kerr (60), a father of four, was shot dead in front of his wife and youngest son at his home at Lylehill Road in Templepatrick shortly before 10 pm on Monday night. He was gunned down by two men posing as fast-food delivery men, police believe.

Det Insp Jonathan Roberts said the killing was “cold and calculated. We have no clear motive for this attack at this time”. he said.

“I would appeal for anyone with information to contact the police.

“There must be people in the community here who have some suspicions about who was involved or who knows who was involved and I would urge them to contact the police.”

Police sources said it was “highly unlikely” that dissidents were involved. They are exploring a number of lines of inquiry, one of which is that loyalists may have been involved.

Police have also appealed for information from anyone who may have seen a BMW car, which they believe was the getaway vehicle, in the village around the time of the attack. The BMW was discovered burned out about 10 miles away in Glenavy, Co Antrim.

Mr Kerr’s wife Sally and their four sons were last night said to be “numb with shock and grief”.

UUP councillor and friend Danny Kinahan said Mr Kerr was a man with a lot of energy who was actively involved in the UUP.

The DUP MP for South Antrim, the Rev William McCrea, said the killing was a “dastardly murder” and that those responsible must be taken “off the streets”.

Local SDLP Assembly member Tommy Burns said people in the area were shocked by the murder.
