LONDON - The debate over whether prisoners should be, handcuffed while they are in hospital has been reignited with the disclosure that British remand prisoner recovering from a lung transplant operation was shackled to his hospital bed, writes Rachel Donnelly.

Mr Wayne Brittle (30), who is facing charges of robbery, collapsed at Doncaster private prison at the weekend and was taken to hospital in Sheffield. Mr Brittle has been handcuffed to his bed while a Group 4 security guard sits beside him.
