THE QUALITY of An Posts delivery service was below target for the first six months of this year, according to a new report from the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg).

Overall, 84 per cent of mail was delivered within one working day throughout the State, a 1 per cent drop on the same period in 2010 and well below An Post’s 94 per cent target for next-day delivery.

The survey, conducted by Ipsos MRBI and based on a sample of 7,381 test mail items posted across the State, found that 98.6 per cent was delivered within three working days, as against a target of 99.5 per cent.

Those posting items from counties other than Dublin saw the greatest decrease in performance, with next-day delivery dropping from 86 per cent to 83 per cent between the first and second quarters of this year. Mail posted in Dublin county for delivery within the county saw a 2 per cent decrease in next-day delivery.
