I would respectfully suggest that the action contemplated by members of the (Garda) force is unjustified, unwarranted and out of all proportion to the reality of the situation as it currently stands.

You created a clear atmosphere of empathy with them (the gardai) and the result was that they had a very definite expectation that Fianna Fail and particularly Fianna Fail's man in Justice, John O'Donoghue, would deliver on the Garda pay issue when elected to government.

I want to suggest that it is now time to reconsider the bar on gardai forming a trade union. In other countries, the police forces are allowed to be members of trade unions without any deleterious effects.
