FIANNA Fail's support has increased by eight percentage points and Labour's has dropped by 12 points in Dublin since the last general election in 1992, according to an opinion poll in yesterday's Evening Herald.
Excluding the very high 24 per cent undecided, the state of the parties in the greater Dublin area is: Fianna Fail 41 per cent (compared to 33 per cent in 1992); Fine Gael 21 per cent (compared to 17 per cent); labour 14 per cent (compared to 26 per cent); PDs 8 per cent (compared to 5 per cent); Democratic Left 4 per cent (compared, to 5 per cent); and others 14 per cent (unchanged).
The poll, conducted by Lansdowne Market Research among a quota sample of 500 respondents on Monday and Tuesday of last week, shows the current Government as the preferred choice of coalition for 32 per cent of voters. The Fianna Fail/PD alternative commands the support of 30 per cent. Some 16 per cent would prefer a Fianna Fail/Labour government, the option ruled out by the Tanaiste, Mr Spring, last weekend.
