British detectives hunting those responsible for the Ealing bomb today released an e-fit of a man believed to have bought the car used in the attack.

The man paid £425 in cash for the grey Saab 9000 turbo at a car dealership in Ilford, east London, on July 19th.

Metropolitan Police e-fit of the suspect

It was later packed with explosives and detonated on Ealing Broadway in west London.

The e-fit shows a white man in his mid-30s, 5ft 10ins to 5ft 11ins tall and of trim build.

He has straight, mousey blonde hair and a pitted face which suggests he has suffered from acne at some time.

The man also has a slightly dimpled chin and speaks in a soft Irish accent.

Eleven people were hurt when the 40 kilogramme device exploded. British police have blamed the bombing on the dissident "Real IRA".

CCTV footage also captured grainy images of the man suspected to have planted the bomb. But despite widely publicising them, police said there had been a disappointing response from the public for information.

A man injured in the bomb has returned to hospital where his condition is said to be critical.

The man (45) suffered a deep cut to the back of his neck from the explosion last Thursday.

He is in intensive care in a critical condition, a Scotland Yard spokesman said. Pictures caught by closed-circuit television showed the man standing at a bus stop when the car bomb detonated in the busy Ealing area.
