Newcastle United striker Craig Bellamy has been cautioned by police for common assault on a woman after an incident outside a nightclub.
"As a result of police inquiries into an allegation of assault made by a 20-year-old student, police have questioned and cautioned Newcastle footballer Craig Bellamy for the offence of common assault," a Northumbria police spokesman confirmed.
Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd has said: "We are aware of the allegations and shall be conducting our own internal investigation immediately".
A club statement isexpected to be made later today.
