A viable pipe bomb was discovered outside a house in Northern Ireland today.

A viable pipe bomb was discovered outside a house in Northern Ireland today.

Following a telephone warning, Fairyknowe Park in Newtownabbey, Co Antrim, was cordoned off shortly after midnight and an Army bomb disposal team called in.

The device was removed from the front garden of a house in the street, on the outskirts of Belfast, for examination.

A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokeswoman said a motive for the attack on the property had yet to be established.

She appealed for anyone with information or who witnessed any suspicious activity around the area to contact the PSNI.
