A pensioner has died after being rescued from a house fire in south Belfast yesterday evening.
The woman, in her 70s, was in the front living room of the property when the blaze broke out.
She was rescued by firefighters from the semi-detached bungalow at Glenholm Crescent in the Four Winds area at around 6pm and given medical assistance but died in the Royal Victoria Hospital.
Alan Walmsley, from the fire service, said: "There is nothing at this moment to suggest it was suspicious."
He said she suffered burns and smoke inhalation, with the fire largely confined to the front room. Neighbours called the emergency services and firemen wearing breathing apparatus found the woman within seconds.
There was a smoke alarm but it is not clear if it was working. The blaze started in the living room and three fire engines were summoned.
Mr Walmsley added: "We brought her outside and started giving her medical assistance. She was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital but unfortunately during the night she passed away from her injuries."
