The trial of a man who denies 64 incest charges was adjourned yesterday without any evidence being heard

The trial of a man who denies 64 incest charges was adjourned yesterday without any evidence being heard. Mr Justice Barr told the jury of eight men and four women in the Central Criminal Court that a difficulty had arisen and the opening of the case would be postponed until this morning.

On Monday the 50-year-old accused man pleaded not guilty to charges of having unlawful carnal knowledge of one of his daughters forcibly and against her will; having carnal knowledge of her knowing she was his daughter; and indecently assaulting her. The charges refer to unknown dates from 1985 to 1990. He also denied one charge of assaulting her, occasioning her actual bodily harm on September 14th, 1991. He further denied indecently assaulting a second daughter in 1983. The alleged victims are now adults.
