No progress was reported yesterday in the dispute between Irish Sugar and its growers, which has seen the closure of the Mallow and Carlow factories and 650 lay-offs.

IFA president Mr Tom Parlon, who led the negotiations on behalf of the 3,800 growers, said there was a growing demand for the appointment of a Government regulator of the Greencore monopoly.
