Michael Legge, the young Newry actor who played the 15-year-old Frank McCourt in Angela's Ashes, plays Vince Smith, a disco-obsessed teenager in the new British movie, Whatever Happened to Harold Smith, which opens next Friday. The film is set in 1977 as Vince's world is turned upside down when he falls in love with an exotic punk (Laura Fraser), unaware that she is a workmate of his in a solicitor's office. Tom Courtenay plays Vince's father, Harold, and the period soundtrack ranges from the Bee Gees, Heatwave and Tina Charles to the Buzzcocks, the Stranglers, the Sex Pistols and The Clash.
