Prosecutors are considering legal action against the largest security firm in Northern Ireland.
Police have sent a file to the Public Prosecution Service after discovering Ballymena-based Maybin was found to be operating without a licence.
The company guards sensitive government buildings, including local courts and prisons. The Northern Ireland Office grants the permit after vetting applications.
The security licence is issued by the Northern Ireland Office, under the Terrorism Act 2000, which states employees need to be vetted if they are working in sensitive positions.
Maybin had been operating without the correct licence for about 10 months.
The company has renewed their licence and said it was an administrative oversight. It is the largest security company in Northern Ireland with around 6,500 workers.
