Electricity supplies in Northern Ireland should be fully restored by midnight, the supplier said today.

Almost 650 staff have been deployed today in the restoration effort. These include 295 imported line staff from across the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Fewer than 500 customers in Northern Ireland are still without power.

A spokesman for the electricity authority said: "NIE (Northern Ireland Electricity) is hopeful that everyone will have electricity supplies reconnected by midnight tonight."

Due to the changing situation, Ballymoney Council's assistance centre at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre will remain open until 6pm to provide hot food, showers and shelter. NIE staff are available at this centre to provide up to date information.

The Millennium Centre in Loughguille is now closed.
