A press conference to mark the publication of the autobiography of the Sinn Fein president, Mr Gerry Adams, will take place on Thursday at the Irish Centre in Camden Town, north London, it was confirmed last night.

The publishers, William Heinemann, were forced to finds a new venue after the House of Commons authorities ruled that the press conference could not be held at Westminster.

The Commons authorities bowed to mounting pressure after MPs protested at the weekend that the booking, made on behalf of Mr Adams by a Labour MP, Mr Jeremy Corbyn, was intended to provide the Sinn Fein president with a publicity platform unrelated to the substance of the book.

As a former MP, the Sinn Fein president could not have been refused a room in the Commons for the express purpose of promoting his book. Such privileges extend to all sitting and former MPs.
