New harbour opens in Baltimore

A new €1 million refurbished West Pier at Baltimore and Skibbereen Harbour was officially opened this morning.

A new €1 million refurbished West Pier at Baltimore and Skibbereen Harbour was officially opened this morning.

The new pier has a safer structure for boat users is expected to reduce traffic congestion in the area. It will also increase access to the pier during both high and low tides.

Speaking at the opening Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey said a further €1.33 million will be spent on the relocation of the roll-on roll-off ferry slipway at the harbour and an extension of the north pier.

Mr Dempsey also announced the Government would spend €3 million this year on remedial works at regional harbours throughout the country.
