New editor for 'Irish Post' newspaper

London-based Irish newspaper the Irish Post has appointed a new editor who takes up her position immediately.

London-based Irish newspaper the Irish Post has appointed a new editor who takes up her position immediately.

From Tramore in Co Waterford, Siobhan Breatnach takes over the reins with immediate effect. She began her career as a news reporter at the Sligo Weekender and has served as the Post’s news editor for the last five years.

A native Irish speaker she has featured on Irish language station TG4 and contributes regularly to RTÉ Nuacht and Raidió na Life. A UCD law graduate she holds an MA from the University of East London, where her dissertation focused on the future of the Irish in Britain.

Ms Breatnach said: “I’m delighted to be appointed as editor. The Irish Post has always been at the heart of the Irish in Britain and I look forward to continuing that proud tradition, supporting our more established communities and building links with the new wave of arrivals from Ireland.”

Another long-time reporter with the newspaper, Ms Fiona Audley has been appointed as regional editor with responsibility for extending the 40-year-old newspaper’s coverage in Britain.

It was taken over a year ago by publisher, Mr Elgin Loane.

Born in California to Irish parents from Galway, Ms Audley moved to London with her family when was three years old. She joined The Irish Post as a senior reporter in February 2008 after working on the newsdesk of the Barking and Dagenham Post,
