Gardai investigating the murder of a young woman in Ballina, Co Mayo, are continuing door-to-door inquiries in the town. The body of Ms Gillian Thornton (20) was found in a disused garden off a laneway early on Saturday morning. She was last seen alive at Long Necks disco on Thursday night/early Friday morning. Ms Thornton's body was removed to St Muredach's Cathedral in Ballina last night. The ceremony was attended by hundreds of people. She is survived by her parents, Noel and Angela Thornton, brothers Noel and David, and sister Rita. Her funeral takes place today after Mass at noon.
