The solicitor for a man convicted of murder 13 years ago has welcomed an RUC statement confirming that it has asked a senior officer from Strathclyde Police in Scotland to reinvestigate the case of Thomas Green.

Green was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Mr John O'Neill, a Catholic painter from north Belfast, who was beaten to death outside a loyalist club in the city in 1986. Green alleged that he was beaten by police until he confessed to the killing.
