World champion Michael Schumacher finally broke his Austrian Grand Prix duck in extraordinary circumstances today when Ferrari team mate Rubens Barrichello slowed at the line to allow the German to win.
Brazilian Barrichello, who signed a new deal to stay at the Italian team for two more seasons during the week, led from pole position at the A1 ring and never looked under threat.
Schumacher, who had never won an Austrian Grand Prix before, was booed by the crowd and insisted that Barrichello take the top step on the podium.
Juan-Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher were third and fourth for Williams with Giancarlo Fisichella getting Jordan's first points of the season in fifth place.
The safety car made two appearances, the second time after a nasty crash when Nick Heidfeld's Sauber crashed at speed into the side of Takuma Sato's Jordan, but both drivers remarkably escaped injury.
