One of the founding members of Meath Peace Group, Ms Julitta Clancy, has been awarded an honorary MBE for her work in promoting reconciliation in the peace process over the past decade.
The award will be presented by Britain's Princess Anne at the British Ambassador's residence during a visit to Dublin tomorrow.
The voluntary Meath Peace Group was established in March 1993 to promote peace through "the fostering of understanding, mutual respect, reconciliation and trust through dialogue between people North and South", and assisting in the "empowerment of people in the long-term work of building the foundations for a lasting peace on the island".
Over the 10 years of its existence, it has held public talks in Meath, transition-year programmes in secondary schools, peace vigils and rallies, workshops and seminars and youth and adult exchanges.
The group has also published numerous reports, statements and submissions on issues relating to the peace process and has sent teams of observers to disputed parades in Co Fermanagh in conjunction with Enniskillen Together.
Ms Clancy is also co-chair, with Mr Roy Garland, of the cross-community heritage and reconciliation group, the Guild of Uriel, which was founded in 1995 and is based in Co Louth.
