The High Court has reserved judgment on an action arising from marriage laws enacted during the reign of Henry VIII nearly 500 years ago.

The action has been taken by Ms Winnie Tipper (otherwise Kavanagh), of Stephen's Road, Inchicore, Dublin. In August 1972, when she was 21, she married her late aunt's husband, Mr Joseph Kavanagh, who was then 41.

Mr Justice Smyth is being asked to declare that the marriage is valid.
