Cork city-based electronics company SMTC Manufacturing Corporation has laid off 65 temporary staff as a result of the downturn in the electronics sector.

The electronics manufacturing services provider employs 200 permanent staff in Ireland at facilities in Cork and Donegal. It is understood that STMC was forced to cut staff numbers after losing a major contract.
