Manchester United's Red Cafe on D'Olier Street in Dublin has closed after only seven weeks in business.

Manchester United's Red Cafe on D'Olier Street in Dublin has closed after only seven weeks in business.

The restaurant has reported debts of £700,000 and is closing due to lack of custom. It was opened in partnership with Irish catering group Fitzers, which runs a number of other successful outlets countrywide.

Manchester United's communications director, Mr Paddy Harverson, described the closure as "disappointing". He said the club would have to absorb some of the losses.

The café was only one of four which the club licenced worldwide. The others are in Cape Town, Singapore and at United's Old Trafford ground.
