Police in Co Derry are today hunting a gunman who fired two shots at a house.

A couple escaped injury as they were in the rear of the property on Lisnablagh Road, Coleraine.

The PSNI said one shot was fired at the door and another through the living room window shortly before 11pm yesterday.

A man, wearing dark clothing, was seen running from the house in the direction of nearby Blackthorn Court.

A PSNI spokeswoman appealed for anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.

"It remains a cause for alarm that people take weapons and think nothing of firing them indiscriminately into the homes of others," local Ulster Unionist MLA David McClarty said.

"This type of behaviour is appalling and sadly happens too often. It is fortunate that no one was hurt in the incident."
