A knife-wielding man claiming he heard voices telling him to kill people slashed 10 young children in a church school cafeteria in South Korea's capital Seoul today, Yonhap news agency reported.
The news agency said three of the 10 children suffered severe head and neck injuries after the 53-year-old jobless man stormed into the church and attacked.
Police alerted by a church school official arrested the man 30 minutes after the attack, which took place as 45 children and three adults were eating lunch in the church cafeteria in eastern Seoul, it said.
The victims, students at the church preschool, included seven boys and three girls. One of the children was six years old.
Yonhap quoted police as saying the man told them he heard voices last night telling him he would be killed unless he killed others.
He carried out the attack after a sleepless night, it said.
