THE RUC in Lurgan, Co Armagh, has appealed for help in tracing three youths who set fire to a 58-year-old man in the town yesterday.
Mr Eamon Maguire, from Edward Street, answered a knock on his door at 10 am. and was confronted by three masked youths. They doused him with petrol and set him alight. The youths then escaped into the nearby Shankill estate.
Mr Maguire is being treated in the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast. Supt Cyril Donnan described the attack as "barbaric".
The masked gang who carried out the attack claimed to be from the IRA. Later yesterday evening, however, the IRA issued a statement denying any involvement.
