A 44-year-old Dublin man appeared before Limerick City Court yesterday charged with possessing two handguns, three rifles and 481 rounds of assorted ammunition at Rialto, Dublin, on Tuesday. He is Mr Frank Burke, of Rialto Court.

An application for bail was made by Mr Sean Elder, solicitor, which was opposed by Det Insp John Kerin, Henry Street, on the grounds that the defendant had been living under an assumed name of John Halpin in Rialto.

When his flat was searched he was found to have a false driving licence and false passport in the name of John Halpin. One of the handguns was found to contain five live rounds in the chamber.

The defendant, he said, had failed to turn up in Dublin District Court on June 24th, 1996, and a bench warrant for his arrest was issued on that date.
