A man is being questioned by police today following a stabbing in Co Down last night.

The 20-year-old victim was attacked at about 10.50pm last night at Burrendale Park Road, in Newcastle.

He was stabbed at least three times and was taken to hospital, where his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Several hours later a 26-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

Detectives in Downpatrick have appealed for information.

Meanwhile, police have issued a separate appeal after a teenager tried to hijack a motorbike from a woman in rush hour traffic in Belfast earlier this week.

The incident reportedly happened at Great Victoria Street in Belfast at about 5.20pm on Thursday.  The 29-year-old woman said she was stopped in traffic on the busy city centre route, when she was threatened.

A young man, who was wearing a scarf over his face, pushed her on the shoulder and warned her to get off the bike. The woman said she found a gap in the traffic and made off.
