Gardaí and Bus Éireann have begun separate investigations into a fatal crash in Co Meath this morning involving a bus and 4x4 vehicle.
The male driver (37) of the 4x4 was killed when his vehicle collided with the bus at a roundabout on the N4 near Enfield shortly at 6.45am.
There were no passengers on the out-of-service Bus Éireann coach at the time, and the driver, a man in his 30s, was taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown to be treated for shock.
The bus was travelling from the Broadstone depot in Dublin to Enfield to begin its daily service to the capital at 6.50am when it collided with the other vehicle.
Bus Éireann said the bus had undergone routine independent assessment on February 10th last.
A female, in her 30s, who was a passenger in the 4x4 vehicle suffered minor injuries in the crash.
The victim is understood the have died at the scene. His body was taken to Naas General Hospital where a postmortem will be carried out.
Gardaí said the road at the scene of the crash will be closed until later this afternoon, to allow the area be examined by Garda forensic collision investigators.
Bus Éireann said it had also begun its own investigation into the crash and would assist the gardaí with their enquiries. The company extended its sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased.
Gardaí also named two other men killed in separate weekend road crashes.
A man who died in a single-vehicle crash in the Co Galway in early hours of Sunday morning was today named as Martin Small (28) of Castlegar, Co Galway.
Mr Small died after his car struck a water-pump house at Ballinahown, Rossavil some time between midnight and 3am.
A postmortem is due to be carried out later today at Galway University Hospital.
A male pedestrian, who was fatally injured when hit by a vehicle at 7.20pm at Sooey, Co Sligo, on Saturday evening, was today named as James Flanagan (59) of Sooey, Riverstown, Co Sligo.
