A Co Cork man who made hundreds of obscene phone calls received a two-year suspended sentence yesterday after it was heard the defendant is suffering from a brain injury.

Anthony Quigley, Roches Heights, Mitchelstown, Co Cork, previously pleaded guilty to 13 counts of making indecent phone calls between September and December 2000.

Garda∅ told Cork Circuit Criminal Court that in one four-day period, Quigley made 484 calls from his mobile phone.

Counsel for the defence said the 28-year-old had been involved in a car crash a few months before he started making the calls. Judge Brian Michael Curtin ordered the defendant to attend a neuro-psychologist for an assessment of his head injuries.
