A man has been remanded in custody charged with robbery of €3,000 from a post office in Dublin.

A man has been remanded in custody charged with robbery of €3,000 from a post office in Dublin.

A sum of cash was stolen from the post office at Upper Rathmines Road yesterday afternoon.

Gardaí stopped a taxi at Leicester Avenue a short time later and arrested a man. Nobody was injured in the incident and a sum of money was recovered.

Kenneth Doona (31), of Mary Aikenhead House, James Street, Dublin 8, was charged with robbery of €3,000 from the post office, and stealing €200 from a man at the same location.

Gda Fionnuala Friel told Judge Hugh O’Donnell at Dublin District Court the defendant was brought to Rathmines Garda station after his arrest.

He was charged and made “no reply” to caution, the court heard.

Gda Friel confirmed that the DPP had directed “trial on indictment” and the case is to be sent forward to the Circuit Court.

Defence solicitor Michael Hanahoe said his client was not making a bail application.

Judge O’Donnell remanded Mr Doona, who was wearing blue jeans and a striped top, in custody to appear again at Cloverhill District Court on April 20th.

Legal aid was granted.
