A 19-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital following an assault in Mullingar on Saturday night.
Gardaí said the man was set upon and assaulted by a number of youths at Ginnell Terrace in the town at about 6.45pm.
The man was taken by ambulance to Mullingar hospital but was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where his condition is described as critical.
A 29-year-old woman was arrested last night and she is being held at Mullingar Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
