AN 18-YEAR-OLD man was in custody in Limerick last night following the discovery of a Glock pistol.

AN 18-YEAR-OLD man was in custody in Limerick last night following the discovery of a Glock pistol.

The weapon and a small amount of ammunition was dis- covered at the back of a house near the village of Clonlara in Co Clare on the outskirts of Limerick city.

Members of the armed Regional Support Unit and gardaí from Mayorstone Garda station in Limerick entered the house and carried out the search as part of a planned operation, according to a Garda spokesman.

The gun, a Glock pistol, has been sent to Dublin for forensic analysis, which will enable gardaí to determine if it has been used in any recent incidents.

The man was arrested at the scene and was being detained at Henry Street Garda station for questioning last night.

He is being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act

This enables gardaí to hold him for up to 72 hours.

The search was carried out as part of investigations into ongoing criminal activity in the city.
