The Democratic Unionist Party deputy leader, Mr Peter Robinson, has described as scandalous the award of £13,500 to Maguire, a former IRA for twisting her ankle on a path. She was granted award by the High Court Belfast on Tuesday.
Mr Robinson compared the damages to the "paltry amounts given to victims of IRA terrorism and their families".
However, Ms Maguire's solicitor, Mr Leo White, defended the award.
He said his client had her debt to society and that court had awarded her "fair and reasonable compensation".
Ms Sandra Peacock, whose husband Jim - a prison officer - was shot dead by loyalists three years ago, said there was "plenty of justice for terrorists but none for law abiding people".
Her family was offered £30,000 after his death, she said, "so Donna Maguire's ankle is worth half my husband's life".
